A-Rod’s back in the postseason! And, no, this has nothing to do with the New York Yankees and their teeny-tiny playoff hopes.

Alex Rodriguez is, in fact, returning to Fox Sports for a stint as a postseason analyst. The news comes from A-Rod himself, since he’s media now:

This will be his return to baseball after retiring from the Yankees in August, ending a 22-year MLB career filled with controversy, awards and 696 homers.

This isn’t A-Rod’s first time in the analyst chair. Fox used him for last year’s postseason and he was quite good, by all accounts. For all the drama that came along with his playing career, Rodriguez was always thought to have a smart baseball mind. John Entz, the president of production for FOX Sports, agrees with that:

“Alex did a phenomenal job explaining the ‘Why?’ and the ‘How?’ for our baseball viewers last year,” said Entz. “We always knew he’d be great on television but what surprised us all was just how quickly he picked it up. He’s a natural. Plus, he still owes us for that screen he cracked last year.”

A-Rod’s baseball smarts are one of the reasons he campaigned to stick around the Yankees and help younger players once it was clear the Bombers had no intention of giving him significant playoff time this season. Instead, he’ll serve as a Yankees advisor next spring.

And while A-Rod seemed to be enjoying the retirement life — at least according to his tweets — he couldn’t stay away from the game too long.
