Cubs make sure Kyle Schwarber gets in on World Series celebration
The celebration that erupted in the city after the Chicago Cubs clinched their first World Series appearance was just as epic as you might expect. It included crowded streets, celebrity sightings, a Speedo and plenty of Jägermeister to go around.
Roughly 1,600 miles away, Kyle Schwarber was just finishing up his first game in the Arizona Fall League. Schwarber was expected to play a key role with the Cubs this season, but tore his ACL and LCL on April 7.
Though he missed the entire season, the Cubs organization made sure Schwarber got a taste of Saturday’s 5-0 win in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series. Schwarber may not have been in Chicago, but he got doused with champagne like all his teammates. The link to the video isn’t embebbable at the moment, but you can view it here.

That’s a pretty excellent gesture. Everyone in the Cubs’ organization realizes the impact Schwarber would have likely played with the club had he stayed healthy this year. He may have only played in two games, but he deserves to celebrate just like everyone else.
With that said, you might want to hold off on feeling too bad for Schwarber. Some have speculated that his AFL activation could mean the Cubs are considering putting him on the World Series roster. The team certainly left that open-ended prior to Saturday’s game.
After his first game back, Schwarber made it seem like he was ready to go.
Schwarber says he has full confidence in his knee. If he were filling out Tuesday’s lineup, who would be DH? “No comment,” with a smile.

Schwarber’s champagne shower was a nice gesture, even if he missed out on the bigger celebration. That might not matter soon, though. Based on how things are looking, Schwarber may find himself front and center the next time the Cubs start popping bottles in the clubhouse.
