Freshman defensive end Charles Wiley was arrested on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge Monday.

The news was first reported by RebelGrove.com. Per the site, booking logs from the Lafayette County Detention Center showed Wiley was booked at 6:15 p.m. Monday.

“We are aware of the situation and recognize the proper authorities are responsible for the matter,” Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze said in a statement. “Charles is being withheld from all team activities while the process moves forward. We take incidents like this very seriously and will make decisions once the course of action is complete.”

Both Rebel Grove and the Jackson Clarion-Ledger note a woman, Legend Fultz, was arrested at the same time, by the same officer and on the same charge as Wiley.

Wiley was a four-star recruit and the No. 17 weakside defensive end in the class of 2016 according to Rivals. He enrolled at Ole Miss in January and, per the Clarion-Ledger, was impressive in spring practice.

“As you guys know, he’s kind of a combine freak — can run, jump, very explosive,” [Ole Miss defensive line coach Chris] Kiffin said. “He’s just a little bit raw right now. He’s a quick learner. He’s not lost out there. He’s very talented. Charles is going to be a very special player.

“Charles is kind of feeling his way through right now, but when the light does go on, he’s going to be great. Charles is going to be a very good player for the Ole Miss Rebels one day.”
