Hope Solo shows everyone how she plans to beat the Zika virus in Brazil

Hope Solo’s priorities for the Summer Games in Brazil can be characterized as the following: 1) bring home a fourth straight Olympic gold medal for the United States women’s national team and 2) do everything possible not to come home with the Zika virus.

The chances of Solo and her American teammates achieving the former are pretty favorable, considering the U.S. won the Women’s World Cup last year and head coach Jill Ellis has been proactive in keeping the squad energized by incorporating exciting, young talent like Mallory Pugh.

As for the latter, Solo looks to be well-equipped to accomplish that personal goal as well.

How do we know? Because the goalkeeper tweeted a picture on Thursday night showing off quite the arsenal of insect repellent to keep any Zika-carrying mosquitoes away.

Back in February, before the USWNT began Olympic qualifying, Solo said she wouldn’t go to Rio due to Zika concerns, but she “begrudgingly” changed her mind in May to play in her third Summer Games. The soon-to-be 35-year-old Solo (her birthday is July 30, four days before USA’s opener against New Zealand) continues to be a key component in the Americans’ blueprint for major tournament success. She can still turn away shots with the best of them.

Just don’t ask her to share what appears to be her go-to repellent.

Problem is, Solo’s preference for Sawyer as her bug spray of choice conflicts with U.S. Soccer’s official brand. Earlier this month, the federation announced that it had entered a multiyear agreement with Cutter as its official insect repellent. Oops.
