Iowa State TE has 103 stitches in back after being hit by car
Always keep your head on a swivel while crossing the street. Oh, and always keep an eye out for pedestrians while you’re driving. If you somehow need an example for those two sentences, Iowa State tight end Chase Allen has one for you.
Allen told the Springfield News-Leader he was hit by a car outside ISU’s football facility Thursday evening. He thankfully didn’t suffer incredibly serious injuries. We add “incredibly” to the preceding sentence because he received 103 stitches in his back from shattered glass.
“I was crossing the street and a car didn’t see me but I had time to react and jump,” Allen said.
Allen landed on the car’s windshield, which shattered upon impact. Allen said he had a large amount of broken glass in his back, but managed to avoid hitting his head or suffering any bone injuries.
He was taken to the hospital by Iowa State coaches and told the paper he’s grateful that it could have been “so much worse.”

A freshman in 2016, Allen was the No. 23 tight end in the class of 2016, according to Rivals. His dad is Terry Allen, a former head coach at Kansas and ex-associate head coach at Iowa State. Chase went to Nixa High School, just outside Springfield, Missouri, as his dad was Missouri State’s head coach through 2014. Allen was replaced at Missouri State by former Mizzou defensive coordinator Dave Steckel.
