Johnny Gaudreau on receiving end of big Leo Komarov hit (Video)

Johnny Gaudreau of the Calgary Flames briefly left Monday’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs after a thunderous hit along the wall from Leo Komarov.

There was no penalty called for the hit and Komarov and Mark Giordano somehow only ended up with roughing minors instead of fighting majors for their brief tilt that featured dropped gloves and punches thrown. Hmm.

Gaudreau only missed a few minutes of the game before returning to the ice. He was welcomed back by Zach Hyman, who increased the Leafs’ lead to 3-0 with a shorthanded goal.

Will supplemental discipline be coming for Komarov? Probably not. He didn’t leap into the hit and his shoulder was tucked. He also may have gotten a piece of Gaudreau’s head but it wasn’t the main point of contact. It’s a good hit just with a tough result, at least for a few minutes for Johnny Hockey.
