Josh Norman expects to play Sunday, one week after being knocked unconscious

On Sunday, Washington Redskins cornerback Josh Norman had to be ushered off the field in Detroit after taking a nasty fall to the turf and briefly losing consciousness.

But just five days later in London, Norman was back on the football field err, football pitch, and ready to focus on his upcoming matchup against Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green at Wembley Stadium.

Norman told Yahoo Sports he felt “good” after practice Friday, comparing his concussion symptoms to the hit he suffered against the Chicago Bears in 2014 that kept him out for two straight games.

“That one was kinda tough, but this one doesn’t feel like it’s going to be an issue,” Norman said.

Sunday afternoon, if Norman is cleared to play, he’ll be matched up against Green, who is second in the league in receiving yards (775) and in yards per game (110.7).

“I think he’s like a top four, five wide receiver in the league,” Norman said. “He’s at the top of his profession and it’s cool to see a talent like that come out here that we get to match-up with.

“This is going to be the first time we go at each other and that’s always a new thing for me. I like to see what that’s like. It’s going to be an awesome time, man. It really is going to be an awesome challenge for myself.”

Washington’s $75 million man entered practice Friday wearing dark sunglasses and a sullen expression, but beamed while talking about going up against Green.

“I’m like a kid on Christmas,” Norman said. “It’s so exciting. I’m looking forward to it.”

Norman’s laser-focus on Green doesn’t mean he won’t take some time to enjoy a little of what London has to offer. An avid soccer fan stretching back to his love of the FIFA video games, Norman is expected to take in a little European football on Saturday with Tottenham Hotspur hosting reigning EPL champions Leicester City (though, it should be noted that Manchester United is his team, thanks to his friendship with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba).

But, it’s still a business trip, and though the decision ultimately rests with Washington’s training staff, Norman said he fully expects to be cleared to play Sunday afternoon.

“From the looks of things, I don’t see why I wouldn’t be,” Norman said. “I don’t see why not? For me, that’s what I want to do. For me, I want to go out there and face one of the best. I get up for that, I get hyped for that. That’s where my drive comes from. It don’t come from nowhere else or nobody else.”
