Calvin Johnson may have been the quietest NFL superstar in recent memory. Other than his sensational play, he did little, if anything, to draw attention to himself, and his typically understated retirement earlier this year – there was no farewell press conference at the Detroit Lions’ facility – followed suit.

So when news came Monday night, and then confirmed on Tuesday morning through an official announcement, the the Quiet Man had signed on to be part of the coming season of ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars,” it took many by surprise.

Johnson is part of a quirky cast that includes Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez, swimmer Ryan Lochte, singer Babyface, and one-hit wonder Vanilla Ice.

Last season, there were three NFL players who were part of the “DWTS” cast: Super Bowl 50 MVP Von Miller, Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Antonio Brown, and former Heisman Trophy winner Doug Flutie.
