Notre Dame gets two points the hard way ... again

The Notre Dame special teams should make a trip to Vegas soon because this is getting ridiculous.

It’s another week, and another PAT block for a score for the Fighting Irish.

Notre Dame started the scoring for the game with a 79-yard bomb from DeShone Kizer to Equanimeous St. Brown, but Syracuse responded with a score of their own little more than two minutes later when Eric Dungey plunged in the end zone with a QB keeper.

Notre Dame’s Jarron Jones didn’t take that too kindly.

On the ensuing PAT, Syracuse’s Cole Murphy put up a kick that never made it to the goal posts after Jones put his gigantic hand in the air and blocked the attempt. Cole Luke picked the ball up and ran it all the back to his end zone for the ever-rare defensive PAT and two points.

At least it’s supposed to be rare.

Notre Dame accomplished the same feat three weeks ago late against the Texas Longhorns when Shaun Crawford ran back a blocked PAT to tie the game in Austin. However, the Fighting Irish weren’t able to capitalize that time, losing the game in an overtime thriller, 50-47.

Horrifically enough for Longhorns fans, that wouldn’t be the only time this would happen to their team.

Saturday morning, after a D’Onta Foreman 22-yard rush to bring Texas within one point late in the first quarter against Oklahoma State, Trey Carter blocked the PAT attempt from Trent Domingue, recovered the bouncing ball then lateraled to Tre Flowers who took it the rest of the way for two points.

Perhaps not everyone can be as lucky as the Irish.
