Treon Harris to transfer from Florida
You won’t see Treon Harris at wide receiver for Florida.
Less than a week after Gators head coach Jim McElwain confirmed that Harris had moved from quarterback to wide receiver, the program confirmed Monday that Harris will transfer from the university.
We are confirming reports that Treon Harris is transferring from the University of Florida.

Harris saw significant action at quarterback for the Gators over the past two seasons. After battling for the starting job entering 2015, Harris fell behind Will Grier on the depth chart. UF started 6-0 behind Grier (who has since transferred to West Virginia), but Harris was thrust into the starting role when Grier was suspended by the NCAA in October for a positive performance-enhancing drug test.

With Harris running the offense, Florida struggled to a 4-4 finish down the stretch. Harris threw for more 200 yards only three times and finished the year with 1,676 yards, nine touchdowns and six interceptions. He completed only 50.6 percent of his passes.
In 2014 as a true freshman, Harris played in nine games and passes for 1,019 yards, nine touchdowns and four interceptions while completing just 49.6 percent of his passes.
Alongside receiver Antonio Callaway, Harris missed spring practice because of a suspension for violating the school’s student code of conduct. McElwain confirmed this month that both players had returned to campus but weren’t reinstated to the team.
Harris was slated to be a junior in 2016. If he transfers to the FCS level he would be eligible immediately this upcoming season. If he lands at another FBS program, Harris would have to sit out the season per NCAA rules.
Harris is the seventh quarterback to transfer from Florida since 2013.

With Harris out of the picture, Florida’s quarterback competition will likely come down to either Luke Del Rio, an Oregon State transfer who began his career at Alabama, or Purdue transfer Austin Appleby. Del Rio ran UF’s scout team in 2015, so he has the edge in experience in McElwain’s system. Appleby started 11 games at Purdue.
