Colquitt was an underrated part of the Broncos, winning Super Bowl 50. His superb punting in the AFC Championship Game against the New England Patriots was maybe his best moment, as the defense was able to get Tom Brady off the field quickly–thanks to him having long drives needed.

One of the well-liked Broncos, Colquitt was asked to take a pay cut, but they were asking for too big of one, according to Mile High Sports.

The move was clearly done for cap space purposes, because the Broncos don’t have any better choices to be the punter now. As Mile High Sports pointed out, the team saves $3 million in cap space, so that is a significant amount of cash to save.

Well, let’s be honest, punters are athletes, there’s no debate about that. However, NFL punters are not any different in all-around skill. Almost all of them have the same leg power and share similar accuracy. The punter position is important, but there are countless ones out there who can do the job they’re simply asked to do.

So for the Broncos, it was tough moving on from a likable player on a championship team, but the move was necessary in helping them save cap space for the future.
